A Glimpse Into the New Central Public Library at Bugis

Under renovation since June 2022, the Central Public Library reopened on 12th January 2024 with a rejuvenated look.

It is now home to the new Children's Biodiversity Library by S.E.A Aquarium, along with various spaces dedicated to celebrating Singapore's culture and children-friendly immersive experiences.

Dive into Singapore's first Marine Biodiversity-Themed Library

The Children's Biodiversity Library is classified into distinct zones, each specially designed to introduce children to different marine ecosystems and conservation.

Within these areas, children can observe marine specimens such as animal skeletons, man-made sea pollutants, and a massive central column adorned with coral-like structures. There are also special, easy-to-read infographics on marine biodiversity.

This guarantees an afternoon of discovery for kids who are passionate about all things related to the ocean!

Immerse yourself in a wall projection of sea jelly habitats from the S.E.A. Aquarium at Resorts World Sentosa (RWS).

Monthly Educational Programming @ Central Public Library

In line with the marine biodiversity theme, the library hosts regular programmes focusing on ocean biology and conservation in a submarine-themed space.

Conducted by trained volunteers from RWS and NLB, programmes includes:

1) Interactive human library sessions, where real-life divers and aquarists share their adventures

2) Intertidal art workshops

3) Storytelling sessions

4) Upcycling workshops

Interact with the latest technologies in the Immersive Room

With options to select your own characters, genre, and story location, players can craft interactive narratives using StoryGen, an AI application developed jointly by NLB and Amazon Web Services.

These crowdsourced stories will be showcased on six visual panels arranged along a curved wall.

Best of all, players can bring home their own AI creations via download through a generated QR code.

Celebrate Singapore's Culture and Heritage at Singapore Alcove

Lastly, visitors get to experience local heritage, culture, and literature at the Singapore Alcove, featuring interactive digital kiosks and physical artefacts.
